What is beauty? Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), an American actress, model, and singer, and know well as the “sex symbol”, had quoted: “Boy think girl are like a book, if the cover doesn't catch their eyes, they won’t bother to read what is inside”. Nowadays, on the media, Celebrities all appeal to have flawless skin, with no wrinkle. They make average of us believe what beauty shall look like. Dominance discourse affect the way how we think about beauty. Like in Korea, plastic surgery is inspired by K Pop Stars and encourage by their culture. In order to achieve the look, most people have to go through plastic surgery.
In America, there is a plastic surgeon, who created his own perfect wife look. He asked his patient: "would you do the
entire make over for free, and then married me”? And the women said YES. Later on, they get married after she had the look he wanted. The question is: "Does he love her for who she is or he just wants to married for the look he wanted ?" In another case, teenager
mom let her child get nose surgery because she was being bullied, and teased by
kids in her school for having wide nose. Ken is popular on TV show, due to his
entire body and face plastic surgery.
In China, a man – Feng sued his wife for
giving birth to an ugly child and then found out she had spent about $100,000
in plastic surgery while in South Korea, before they meet. Feng then sued his
wife for false pretense, and his wife had to pay him $120,000, and the judge
agreed to it. Feng told: “I married my
wife out of love, but as soon as we had our first daughter, we began having
marital issues,” “Our daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point where it
horrified me.”
Advertisement about plastic
surgery were all like to show us the picture of before and after transformation
to make people desire for the look. However there is a lots of fail cases in plastic surgery. Where people have to
carry on the ruin face for the rest of their life, or worst their life ended
during the procedure. Media took these cases for a joke. They publish what
happen to the fail surgery, but on the other side, they continue to present “picture”
of how we should look.
1 1) Do you think we need plastic surgery? And if it’s
a yes, what ages do you think is appropriate?
2) “Our Beauty please the Eyes” “Inner Beauty
captivate the Heart”. Is it true?
3) If a person had plastic surgery to transform
their look, are they still identifying as themselves?

Plastic Surgery is for women and men who are insecure about the way they look. That insecurity is through no fault of their own rather it is the impact society has on them. For example if you look at the difference between Jennifer Lawrence and Megan Fox is that Jennifer Lawrence is comfortable with who she is and she doesn't care what people think about the way she looks. Megan Fox is trying to hard to be the perfect barbie doll and she is never herself and we can see where that has landed her. The only time a person does need plastic surgery is if that person is someone like Richard Harrow from Boardwalk Empire or Harvey Dent, if their appearance is disturbing to others.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think that we need plastic surgery. There is one exception in which if it improves your self esteem, you can get plastic surgery. Other than that, everyone just needs to be more positive and accepting.
ReplyDeleteThe quote is somewhat true because in many cases, people will be drawn into those with good looks but when you know someone and their personality is outstanding, their looks don't even matter.
If someone was to have plastic surgery to transform their look, it's not really seen as classifying themselves. They are doing it based on the look of someone else's.
Well if someone has been in a horrific accident, i believe plastic surgery would be a better option, to lessen the extent of the terrible looking scars that may recieved from it. That quote may be true in saying the inner beauty catches the heart but out beauty does so as well. People feel great emotion and love for something like a painting, or even as shallow as it is, for a good looking person. If they classify themselves physically as the same person, that'd be false. If they still have the same personality than sure because some people change alot after they change their looks.
ReplyDeleteI would like to answer question one:
ReplyDeleteI personally think that if plastic surgery is need for one person, then he or she should have one. Plastic surgery is done not only for people who feel insecure, but for people who went through an accident or something that physically damaged them. For example, I have a brother who feel off a bike couple years ago, and it has left him a huge scar on his nose. Doctors recommended many lotions to apply to remove the scar, but unfortunately it didnt work. The doctors came to conclusions saying that the only you can remove the scar on his nose if he has a mini plastic surgery. My brother is a good looking person, he doesnt need the surgery and hes not insecure about it. but however he is considering doing the surgery only to cover the mark. just like that there are others out there who want to cover up something they dont like or whatever the case might be. and at the age should be about 18 years and older
I believe that appearance is just appealing to the eyes but most importantly, inner beauty is what matters the most because it reflects on a person's personality and true self. Yes if a person is pretty or handsome, that is the first thing people notice but, what good is it if this person had a beautiful outer appearance but, no character. When someone wants to look good on the outside, the main reason would be to attract attention. The only problem is once that attention is gotten, can it be kept? With a bad personality, no one would respect or appreciate this person.
ReplyDeleteI think that if women think they look bad, they should be allowed to get their appearance changed. If they are not comfortable with their body, they should do what makes them happy. But beauty is different to everyone so the answer to question 2 will always be a biased one because at the end of the day the person may have a different face but they are the same individual.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone really needs plastic surgery but if someone is unsatisfied with how they look then I believe that it is okay for them to do the surgery. To answer question number 3, if someone has plastic surgery, it does not really change who they are. It just gives them more confidence about them self.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad to say but the media has in fact affected everyone's mind (or a lot) into believing that beauty does matter, therefore making society believe that if a person does not look like that so called "beautiful person," then they are automatically not qualified as being beautiful.
I believe that it is all up to the person to decide whether they should get plastic surgery or not since there are many people who are not satisfied with their looks, as a result they turn to plastic surgery as a option. However, there should be a age restriction on when to get plastic surgery, for example people 18 and over are entitled to get plastic surgery since their body has developed and it would not cause harm on the on the other hand a person under 18 may have complications after the surgery. To answer your last question, I think that the person still identifying as themselves since they had plastic surgery for a reason which was to transform their whole entire life. And by having plastic surgery, they are able to express themselves to others.
ReplyDeleteOne must also understand the societal factors that surround plastic surgery. Especially in places like South Korea, where it is seen that if you do not look attractive, you will never be able to find a husband. So many women feel that they must get plastic surgery to be able to be happy and find someone that loves them. It isn't right but I think they feel like they have no options left.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the first question, no I do not think we need plastic surgery, with few exceptions, those being extreme examples such as fixing a person's look ruined from an accident and things of that sort.
